SDC changed to a C corporation January 1, 2007 after operating as a LLC for its first four years. In addition, the company changed from a partnership with Gary Wonacott, Robert Kolozs, and Christine Benzie as the co-owners, to a widely distributed employee ownership company based on performance stock options. SDC contracted with Martin Staubus of the Beyster Institute (http://beysterinstitute.ucsd.edu/) who helped us tailor a program to our objectives. We wanted employee ownership to be far more than Pavlov dangling a treasure chest at the end of the rainbow. It is continuous education and creating a community of all of the employees, and yes, there is a reward in the end if we work hard, stay focused on our company goals, and have some luck.
