NASA's Orion Spacecraft Group Visits SDC's Facility

San Diego, CA, September 11, 2013 - NASA Orion and Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company (LMSSC) visited San Diego Composites, Inc. (SDC) for a tour of their facility and to learn more about the high quality and cost-effective manufacturing processes that were used at SDC to deliver over 1000 unique parts for the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) program.

SDC has been working with NASA, LMSSC, Arcata and on the Orion program since 2009. SDC provided the composite Launch Abort System (LAS) Fillets and composite Thermal Protection System (TPS) Attachment Structure (TAS) Longerons for Orion's first flight test, the Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1), and Orion's ground test vehicle (GTA). The Orion MPCV is meant to replace the retired Space Shuttle and will safely transfer astronauts to and from the International Space Station, the Moon, Mars and other destinations beyond low earth orbit. SDC looks forward to Orion's ground-breaking and history-making EFT-1 mission next year!

SDC is committed to providing its customers high quality, innovative, and cost-effective technologies. For more information on the Orion projects or other space structure capabilities, please contact Ken Mercer at (858) 751-0450.
