SDC Receives 2012 Tibbetts Award
San Diego, CA, April 27, 2012 - SDC was selected for the 2012 Tibbetts Award.
The Tibbetts Awards are presented to small businesses judged to exemplify the best in the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program. The award is named for Roland Tibbetts, acknowledged as the father of the SBIR program, and is presented to companies that promote the mission and goals of the SBIR program.
SDC was formed in 2003 upon the award of three Phase I SBIR contracts from the Missile Defense Agency. The specific research and development needs were focused on using composite materials to reduce the weight of defense products. SDC has leveraged the SBIR program to grow to $8M in annual sales and employees over 30 people in the San Diego area.
As only 24 companies were selected in 2012 from the entire nation, SDC is honored to be selected for the Tibbetts Award. SDC participated in the award ceremony in Washington DC on April 24, 2012. Shown in the photograph is Mr. Roland Tibbetts (namesake of the Tibbetts Award), Mrs. Karen Mills (SBA Administrator, a Cabinet position created by President Obama in January 2012), Mrs. Christine Benzie (SDC Vice President) and Mr. Sean Greene (Assistant to Mrs. Mills).
