While early investments in the test area have been to support specific programs, the planned evolution of this capability is to provide outside services in specific areas including mechanical properties and static structural testing. SDC is currently building up the in-house infrastructure to meet the ISO 17025 test accreditation requirements. In a recent program, SDC was required to build a "B" allowable database for a specific composite material. As a result, SDC invested in an environmental chamber necessary to produce test coupons to obtain hot/wet data for all of the basic mechanical properties including tension, compression, shear, and bearing. Based on this experience, SDC is now in a position to offer very competitive prices as a service to the community.

SDC is also developing a high temperature polymer missile component that is subjected to high heating rates and relatively short lives compared to aircraft, for example.
